With reference to the Continental Drift Hypothesis, polar fleeing forces are related to which of the following?
Revolution of the earth
Rotation of the earth
Tilting of the earth on its own axis
The gravitational force of the Sun and the moon
Wegener, in his ‘Continental Drift Theory, suggested that the movement responsible for the drifting of the continents was caused by pole-fleeing and tidal forces. The polar-fleeing force is related to the rotation of the earth. The earth is not a perfect sphere, as it has a bulge at the equator. This bulge is due to the rotation of the earth. The second force suggested by Wegener was the tidal force due to the attraction of the moon and the sun that develops tides in oceanic waters. Wegener believed that these forces would become effective over many millions of years. However, these forces were considered totally inadequate by most of the scholars.
