Wellesley established the Fort William College Calcutta because:
He was asked by the Board of Directors in London to do so
He wanted to revive his interest in oriental learning in India.?
He wanted to provide William Carey and his associates with employment.
He wanted to train British civilians for administrative purposes in India.
Explanation :
Fort William College was established on 18 August 1800 by Lord Richard Wellesley to train the British officials with the local language, cultures, law and traditions so that their administrative work would become easier as it involved interaction with the Indian natives. The Court of Directors of the British East India Company were not in support of a training college in Kolkata. Then a separate College was established in 1807 in England.
