THE SALASTAMBHA DYNASTY. NARAKA "of the ASURA SYNASTY " who conquered KAMRUP and took up his abode in PRAGJYOTISH was followed by his son BHAGADATTA, and the latter by others of this line for several generation. Then " by an adverse turn of fate " the kingdom was taken possession of by SALASTAMBHA, " a great chief of the MLECHCHAS". There followed " kings altogether twice ten in number." The last king. the twenty-first of the dynasty TYAG SINGH, went to heaven without leaving any issue of him to succeed him. Then his subjects selected BRAHMAPAL, the father of RATNA PAL to be their king on account of his descent from the BHAUMA i.e. NARAKA'S family to which BHASKARBARMAN had belonged.
