Shekhawati Kisan Andolan, 1930 :
Shekhawati farmers movement in Shekhawati region of Rajasthan which was at its peak in the 1930s. Shekhawati encompasses the administrative districts of Jhunjhunu and Sikar. The early phase of the Shekhawati movement was primarily devoted to instituting social reforms within the community. This area was particularly influenced by Arya Samaj. During the 1920's and 30's several educational societies began to contribute to the support of schools for Jat students and Jat reformers from the British Provinces started to direct their attention and action towards the activities of various Thikanas of Shekhawati. A number of Jat Panchayats and Kisan Sabhas were formed in the villages administered by various Thikanadars and bigger Jagirdars. With the passage of time, the Jats of Shekhawati, with outside support of community leaders, rose against the Jagirdars. The Shekhawati farmers movement was considered by the British media as one of the best organized and effective movements in this part of the country. The movement ultimately led not only to abolition of Jagirs and exploitation of farmers but also paved way for extraordinary social and economical uplift of the farmers of this region.
Activists of Shekhawati Farmer Movement :
In the long run, Shekhawati's natural farming power, which was becoming a victim of economic, social and political evil and exploitation under the feudal system.These catalytic elements were essentially external, which were transit from local forces and paved the way for a great movement. Arya Samaj and Newspaper became the forerunners of Awakening. This movement played an important role in transforming the life of a large part of the population and gave birth to a new system. This movement was mainly against the generosity and exploitation of the Jagirdars.
Contribution of the soldiers : The first transition from the outskirts of the Shekhawati's rustic people is due to the recruitment of farmers' sons here in the British army. In World War I (1914-1919) 14 thousand troops were recruited from this area, out of which 2000 persons gave their lives.. This fact is inscribed on the main entrance of Nizamat Bhawan Jinjhunu. When these soldiers returned to their homeland at the end of the war, they returned with their new ideology and a sense of self respect. His attitude toward education increased and he enrolled his children in the schools running in the towns. Being a pensionary soldier of the British army, credibility became even in their society. Small junk agents were afraid of these soldiers. Later, these soldiers and army officers took part in education, social service and ethnic organizations. For this reason, a newly brought new consciousness and consciousness came under the oppressed farmers.
Arrival of Gandhiji in 1921 : seeds of farmers movement and Janjagran seeds in Shekhawati were sown in 1921 by Gandhiji. In 1921 in Gandhi's arrival Bhiwanihappened. Impact of Arya Samaj : By this time Arya Samaj had been established. Arya Samaj entered the rural area through urban areas, with revolutionary programs of social reform. First of all, the activities of Aryasamaj started in small form in Ramgarh in Shekhawati. Further, the activities of Aryasamaj at large level started in Mandawa with the efforts of Seth Deviabs Sarraf. The people of the city were not oriented, so DeviBucks contacted the outsiders. A large number of people of the country were oriented towards Arya Samaj and adopted and adopted its principles openly. Initially, Harlal Singh was engaged in promoting the works initiated by Aryasamaj, propagating against social evils, organizing farmers and promoting education. With the inspiration of Chaudhary Govindram and Seth Devi BuxHaralal Singh preached the principles of Aryasamaj in the villages strongly. Aryasamaj gave a new direction to the progress of Hindu society with many stereotypes. In the People's Movement of Shekhawati, the patriots of Aryasamaj contributed a great deal.
Bagad Assembly in 1922 : in 1922 after campaigning in villages Bhudaram, Gobind Ram, Ram singh planned a meeting in village . It started promoting in the villages. Thakur’s wer not happy with this, Thakurs arrested them and the meeting was postponed. The police presented before Najim Zunzunu. Govindaram replied - 'We are campaigning for improvement in our caste. We have this right. We are not saying anything against the government. ' Nazim was impressed with this reply and he released everyone. Now the encouragement of farmers' leaders has increased. They gathered again to gather in the rug. The Jagirdars spread terror and fear in Bagad town. Thakurs said, 'To give place for the meeting, there will be a crime, the person who participates in the meeting will be fined.' The people became frightened. No one was ready to give place for the meeting. After all, Bagad's Pathan Amir Khan came forward. He allowed public meetings in his fortress. There was a big hunk in the fort. It could accommodate more than five hundred people. Major farmers of nearby villages reached Bagad. Due to the courage of Bhudaram, he was given the title of Raja. It was challenged to organize society and fight against feudal oppressions. Decided to present meetings to be held in the future with name of social reforms. The British officers also had no problem with this.
Effected by Karmath social workers : Fortunately, some active persons from Uttar Pradesh in Shekhawati were also working in the field of social reform, public awareness, health and education. Among them were Dr. Guljari Lal and Master Pyarelal Gupta . Dr. Gulzarilal was a resident of Jahangirabad in Uttar Pradesh . He was a doctor and innate revolutionary by profession. His younger brother Dr. Govindram Nawalgarh and Dr. Shyamlal were working in Mandawa . Dr. Gulzarilal knew the bomb and trained people to make bombs. Master Pyarelal Gupta was a big survivor and fearless person. He was influenced by Swami Satyadev Parivrajak's teachings, leaving Rajya Seva in 1921 from Nainital to Shekhawati Chadwa had come to the town. Now this was his work place. He became a teacher in high school here. He created an institution called Amar Seva Samiti and started spreading awareness among the people. Members of this organization could become paramilitary.
Later on, when the real thing was exposed, Amar Singh, the Jagirdar of Khetri on Master Pyarelal and his colleagues, made unmentionable atrocities. They were dragged behind the horses and locked them in Khetri jail after taking them 30 miles away from their place. This was the first incident of atrocities committed by any ruler of Shekhawati. After 23 days of continuous torture, he bowed before heavy pressure and Amar Singh released him from prison. After releasing from jail Gupta ji, settled in Junjhunu and started running the social reform program here. He continued to work in different areas of Shekhawati.
