Baddi, Solan - Biggest industrial town of Himachal :
Baddi is an industrial town and a Nagar parishad in the southwestern Solan district of Himachal Pradesh, India. The town lies on the border of Himachal Pradesh and Haryana states in the Shivalik Hills, around 35 kilometres west of Solan.
Baddi real population including migrated people from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Haryana and upper Himachal Pradesh is around 3.5 lakh or 350,000 but most of people migrated people do not take part in censuses so the population of locals of baddi is only considered to be around 40,000.
Demographics :
According to the 2011 Census of India, Baddi town had a population of 29,911 with 19,332 males and 10,579 females. There were 3,883 children below the age of six years. The sex ratio and child sex ratio of the town stood at 547 and 831 respectively.The literacy rate was 86.33%, higher than the state average of 82.80%.
Pharmaceutical and Industrial Hub :
Baddi is home to multiple pharmaceutical companies which have established manufacturing plants and R&D hubs in the town. The town is Asia's biggest Pharmaceuticals hub and is home to some of the largest pharmaceutical companies such as Cipla, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Cadila Healthcare, Abbott Laboratories, Ranbaxy Laboratories, etc.
Baddi houses a total of 2,120 factories belonging to leading pharma, FMCG and textile companies among others and which generate an annual turnover of Rs 60,000 crore.
Hundreds of Companies have set up their manufacturing units in Baddi and number of other Indian companies and MNCs are looking to relocate their manufacturing facilities to Baddi because of tax concessions being offered by the Himachal Government and Central government.
In order to provide facilities to the manufacturers and to boost the business the Indian Government has also decided to link Baddi in Himachal rail network. Today there are around 1000 Medical and pharma companies operating in Baddi. Apart from this there are over 200 packaging / printing units alone in Baddi Himachal Pradesh.
There are hundreds of other factories of various sizes in Baddi. Baddi has provided lot of job opportunities to the youth in Himachal Pradesh. Thousands of jobs have been created by these plants, factories and manufacturing units in Baddi.Baddi employs one-third of all persons engaged in Himachal's medium and large industries. In terms of revenue, the town contributes half of the state's total revenues generated from industries.
Till less than 20 years ago, Baddi in Himachal Pradesh's Solan distt. was a non descript, dusty town. The land was barren, there was hardly any industry and locals had to look for jobs in the neaby states Punjab and Haryana. After the annoucement of Tax Holiday in 2003, Baddi in less than a decade transformed into Asia’s largest pharmaceutical hub and one of the biggest Industrial centre in North India.But with the tax holiday came to an end in 2010 the investments started fallen but Himachal Pradesh gobt. Is even interested in retaining the Baddi – Barotiwala- Nalagarh ( BBN ) corridor.
The biggest industrial township of Himachal Pradesh- Baddi, Barotiwala, Nalagarh (BBN) is set for a major facelift as Himachal Pradesh government has decided to improve the civic amenities. Govt. has stressed upon the beautification and strengthening of civic amenities in BBN development area and to provide industrialists major tax reforms , power facility and ease of doing business in state.
