Smriti Irani instigated India Size project in Mumbai
Union Minister of Textiles Smriti Irani launched the India Size project in Mumbai with an aim to get a standard Indian Size for the ready-to-wear clothing industry, on the lines of the standardized sizes available in countries such as the USA and the UK.
i. During this ceremony, the Minister also launched a Study of Apparel Consumption in India. The report of this
study would be released by July 2019.

Details of the project:

• Under the project, anthropometric data will be collected from 25,000 samples (with men and women in equal numbers) population in the age group 15 to 65 years across six major cities.
• It will create a database of measurements that will result in a standardized size chart which is representative of the Indian population and can be adopted by the apparel industry.
