Sun temples of Rajasthan :
The Sun was the most important place in the Hindu devandal. Sun has a reputation as a deity only from Vedic times. The sun is conceived as the lord of light of the world. Sun Deva is considered to be the main deity among the panchdevs of Hindu religion. Worshiping the sun god brings wisdom, happiness, health, rank, success, fame etc. Sun worship in India has been prevalent for centuries.
Sun worship has been quite famous since the sixth century. In Sirohi district it is very important, historian Dr. Ojha says that there was no such village in the Sirohi State till 600 to 1400 AD, where there is no statue of the ruined sun temple. The Vasantgarh Surya temple of Sirohi district in Rajasthan is now left in ruins only, whereas the Jagat Swami Surya Mandir situated in Bhanimal is completely destroyed, but many ancient Sun temples in the state are still in Ranakpur (Udaipur), Jhalarapatan, Oasis, Bamnara, Mandsar and Tus (Udaipur), Devka (Barmer), Galta (Jaipur) etc. are located in places.
Surya Narayan Temple Ranakpur (Surya Narayan Temple, Ranakpur) :
Sun Temple of Ranakpur is a famous Sun or Surya temple well known as the Surya Narayan Temple. This 13th centry temple was rebuilt in 15th century after destruction. Sun temple is bilt with white lime stone in Nagara style with a delicate ornamented work.
Sun temple is faces to the east direction and has a sanctum crowned with a Chikhara. Sun temple is located near the Ranakpur Jain Temple. In this Surya Temple, the Lord Sun idol is shown as riding his chariot. Temple wall has marvelous carvings of warriors, horses, and celestial bodies which represent the artistic excellence of the people of the bygone era. It has an octogonal mandap before the sanctum. There are six veranda’s in octogonal mandap.
Sun Narayan temple recieves many devotees from all around the country who came for the blessings of Lord Sun.
Surya Temple, Jhalarapatan :
One of the ancient temples of Rajasthan is the Sun temple of Jhalarapatan. It is said that the construction of this temple was made by Nag Bhatt II in Vikram Samvat 872, accordingly it will be built in AD 815. This temple is also known as Padmanabha Temple, Big Temple, and Temple of Seven Friends. The architecture of this temples resembles to that of Konark Sun Temple and the temple of Khajuraho. The construction of the temple is like the chariot of the sun, in which seven horses are withering, similarly the foundation stone of this temple is seem like seven horses are there. There is a statue of Lord Vishnu in the womb of the temple. Colonel JamesTod also gave it the name of the quadrilateral temple (Chaturbhuja Mandir).
Devka Sun Temple, Barmer :
Devka Sun Temple is located in a small village of Devka at a distance of 235 km from Barmer. This 13th-century temple is known for its excellent architectural design and is a popular tourist attraction. Located very near to it is a Vishnu Temple and two other temples with sculptures of Lord Ganesha on stone. Devka village on the Barmer-Jaisalmer road in the Barmer district of the border of Rajasthan is situated in the 12th century 's dilapidated historic Sun Temple and other ancient temples. This ancient sun temple of Devka, about 72 miles away from Barmer, is an important place in the archeology of Rajasthan. Apart from the Sun Temple in Devka's Temple Group, there are temples of Shiva, Kuber and Vishnu also present. The sanctum has been built inside the Sun Temple of the Pikharwala, which represents the ancient importance of Sun worship, and there is a meeting hall next to it. In the north and south of the Mandirpand, very beautiful Gokh and Makar pylon are built.
Sun Temple Galta, Jaipur :
The ancient Sun Temple on the hill of Galata in Jaipur, capital of Rajasthan, was founded by Sawai Jai Singh , the founder of Jaipur . At the time of the establishment of Jaipur, the gate named on the east side was named after Lord Sun's 'Surajpol'. This temple situated on the hill is south facing. God is not the sun image in this temple. It has a large image installed in place. Presently it is worshiped. Indeed, the first 8-inch octagonal statue was installed in the beautiful image of God Sun God . In the year 1979, unknown people stole this rare idol by stealing the priest. In the month of Magh, Shukla Saptami is celebrated on the occasion of Sun Saptami. This mark of God Sun is consecrated with Panchamrta. After that, a Shobha Yatra is departing from here.
Kalika Mata Temple :
This temple dedicated to Lord Bhadrakali. It was built in the 14th century, and is made from the ruins of the 8th century sun temple. The temple attracts a large number of visitors during the annual fair held near the temple complex. People from far and wide visit the temple to pay homage to Goddess Kali, virtually the Sun Temple of the eighth century AD, now called Kalika Mata Mandir.
It is believed that in the eighth century AD, Baba Raval Established his own authority on the fort of Chittaur and built this Sun Temple for the worship of the Sun God. From this point of view, this temple proves the oldest structure of this fort complex. All the idols and sculptures installed in the temple are in the order and process, they tell the story of the construction of this temple as the Sun Temple. In this temple of God white statue of the sun is setting. The wheel is essentially engraved in the hand of the Sun's statue . Here the circle is engraved in the hand of the statue, which is similar to the Padma. Currently this statue is called the statue of black, but it is not correct. The black mother's image is white stone , not the Black stone . Apart from this, there is one thing that the Chalera statue does not mark the cycle.
Sun Temple, Mandsar, Udaipur :
There is a sun temple in the village of Mareser near Maharana Pratap Airport of Udaipur . Historian Dr. Krishna 'Firefly' as based on the architectural composition of the Sun Mndesr temple is considered one of the 10th century, but it is built in the 9th century.
Sun Temple Toos, Udaipur :
Tus is situated on the banks of river Badch near Udaipur. This temple of Sun God of the 10th Century is situated in the village 'Truce' , about 20 miles (32 km) east of Udaipur on the road going to Chittorgarh . The original superstructure of this temple, built in the Maha-Gujjar style, has been lost. The Sun Temple of Teus appears to be made for the solitary worship of the Solar-Sect, because the image of another god is not engraved in the entire temple. The peak and the pavilions of this temple are rebuilt with lime and its peak is flat. In front of its sanctuary is the Sankra Galiara Marg and a meeting hall with three entrances in the east, south and north.
The statue of the sun sitting in the walls of the wall, while marking the standing images of the sun on the outer walls of the road in front of the sanctum sanctorum. The chamber is covered with octagonal cemented roof, in which the table is made. These tablets have been erected on the head of the elephant and the statues of maternal idols have been mentioned. Compared to other temples of Rajasthan, all the idols of the sanctum sanctorum of this temple are large in size. There is also a strange image of the sun on the outer wall of its interval, which has been engraved with two female idols. The marks of these women appear to be lower in the form of the wife of Lord Surya and more in the currency of apsara idols.
Surya Temple in Lohargal :
Surya Temple in Lohargal, Jhunjhunu is one of the top Temples in Lohargal, Jhunjhunu. After the end of the Mahabharata war Pandav was extremely sad when Pandavas killed the brothers and other people, then on the advice of Lord Shri Krishna they went to see various pilgrimage places for liberation. Sri Krishna had told them that in the pilgrimage where their arms are melted in water, the desire for liberation will be fulfilled. The roaming Pandava arrived Lohargal and as soon as they took bath in the Sun Kunda, all their weapons were melted. They understood the glory of this place and it was declared by the title of Tirtha Raj.

It has the idol of Lord Surya and the idols of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Durga are also kept in the temple along with it.The temple is also popularly known as "Khajuraho of Rajasthan".

The Surya temple, located in Osian, Jodhpur District of Rajasthan, India is dedicated to the Sun God, Surya as the name suggests. It has the idol of Lord Surya and the idols of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Durga are also kept in the temple along with it. The images of serpents around lotuses are there on the ceiling of the temple. There is an open mandap around the temple which is mainly used for weddings and other ritual ceremonies that are held in the temple. The structure resembles with the Sun Temple at Ranakpur.
Sun temple, Boodhadeet, Kota :
This temple is 9th-10th century old under the Department of Archeology and Museum. It is one of the oldest sun temples in the area of ??artistic, crafted Hartawi. In the westward sanctuary of the old temple, the sanctorum and the Mahamandap are in the Panchavat style temple. The sun is engraved with Uma-Maheshwar, Lakshmi Narayan, Brahma Savitri and Ganesh, Revati-Balram and Sattatnik Kartikeya. Apart from this, there are statues of Shiva-Parvati, Bhairav ??and Sur-Sundari.
Sun Temple, Amber Jaipur :
This famous Sun Temple is located on the slopes of Aamer's hill in the west of the city, which is southeast oriented. There is a sanctum, a corridor and a staunch pavilion. The sanctum of the temple is built on the Panchharath Yojana with covered roof and open proximity. The sanctum sanctorum also follows the plan. The Pavilion centers on sixteen pillars in the center, which has a flat roof and an altar. The temple is made of stone and brick and it has been repaired recently. There is also an inscription of Vikram Samvat 1011 (AD 954) on a pillar in the front of the pavilion.
