Dams of Rajasthan :
Rajasthan state is India’s largest state by area and home to one of the largest desert in the world. The Royal state has major river system in India such as Banas River,Jawai River and the Chambal River, These rivers of Rajasthan are lifeline for drinking water in the state and some of the major dam built across rivers of Rajasthan includes Khandip Dam, Jakham Dam, ,Jawahar Sagar Dam and Kota Barrage etc.
Bisalpur Dam :
Bisalpur Dam is a gravity dam on the Banas River near Deoli in Tonk district, Rajasthan, India. The dam was completed in 1999 for the purpose of irrigation and water supply. The Bisalpur dam was constructed in the 1990s by the Rajasthan state government. The Bisalpur dam reservoir supplies irrigation water to the Sawai Madhopur and Tonk districts. It also supplies drinking water to the Ajmer, Jaipur and Tonk districts. From Nasirabad in Ajmer district, the drinking water is also transported to the Bhilwara district via a 15-wagon train, which can carry 2.5 million litres of water. The reservoir has been called the lifeline of the state capital Jaipur.
Jakham Dam :
Jakham Dam is a dam located in Pratapgarh District in Rajasthan in India. It is located in Anooppura village of Pratapgarh Tehsil, 32 km from Dhariawad and 35 km from Pratapgarh town. The dam is a main irrigation project of the area.
This dam is built on the Jakham river, which originates from a small village Jakhamia in Chhoti Sadrisub division. The Jakham dam's foundation was laid on 14 May 1968 by then chief minister Mohan Lal Sukhadia, however the actual construction-work of the dam started in 1969-70.The dam itself was completed in 1986, but took another twelve years for the completion of this irrigation project in March 2000.
Ranapratap Sagar Dam :
It is a gravity masonry dam of 53.8 metres height built on the Chambal River at Rawatbhata in Rajasthan in India. It is part of integrated scheme of a cascade development of the river involving four projects starting with the Gandhi Sagar Dam in the upstream reach (48 kilometres (30 mi) upstream) in Madhya Pradesh and the Jawahar Sagar Dam on the downstream (28 kilometres (17 mi) downstream) with a terminal structure of the Kota Barrage (28 kilometres (17 mi) further downstream) in Rajasthan for irrigation.
Jawahar Sagar Dam :
The Jawahar Sagar Dam is the third dam in the series of Chambal Valley Projects on the Chambal River, located 29 km upstream of Kota city and 26 km downstream of Rana Pratap Sagar dam. It is a concrete gravity dam, 45 meter high and 393 m long, generating 60 MW of power with an installed capacity of 3 units of 33 MW. Its construction was completed in 1972. The total catchment area of the dam is 27,195 km2, of which only 1,496 km2 are in Rajasthan. The free catchment area below Rana Pratap Sagar dam is 2,331 km2. The dam is located after the Gandhi Sagar Dam and Rana Pratap Sagar Dam, but before the Kota Barrage.
Jawai Bandh :
Dam built across the Jawai river, a tributary of Luni river. With the same name, a village also situated near to the dam and a railway station on Ajmer-Ahmedabad route. It comes under Sumerpur Tehsil of Pali district in Rajasthan. The dam is situated near Sumerpur town in Pali District of Rajasthan state in India. The dam was built by Maharaja Umaid Singh of Jodhpur. the work started on 12 May 1946 and it got completed in 1957.
Khandip Dam :
Khandip Dam is a weir which is built on the Ganbhir River at Khandip Village of Rajasthan, India. It lies in a valley to the south of the Khandip and north of the Katkad, east of Nawajipura and West of Medi and Phulwara.
The town of Khandip is situated close to the dam wall and the villages Katkad, Medi, Nawajipura, Phulwara can be found alongside its banks.The Khandip Dam supplies irrigation water through a 20 kilometres (12 mi) of farmland on which mustard, wheat, lucerne, fruit and flowers are produced. The Khandip Dam has become a very popular holiday and weekend resort for the inhabitants of Khandip. Now this dam does not stand still and some part of it has failed as it was not made to stand with high overflow due to less resources.
Kota Barrage :
Kota Barrage is the fourth in the series of Chambal Valley Projects, located about 0.8 km upstream of Kota City in Rajasthan. Water released after power generation at Gandhi Sagar dam, Rana Pratap Sagar dam and Jawahar Sagar Dams, is diverted by Kota Barrage for irrigation in Rajasthan and in Madhya Pradesh through canals on the left and the right sides of the river. The work on this dam was completed in 1960.
Mahi Bajai Sagar Dam :
Mahi Bajaj Sagar Dam is a dam across the Mahi River. It is situated 16 kilometres from Banswara town in Banswara district Rajasthan. The dam was constructed between 1972 and 1983 for the purposes of hydroelectric power generation and water supply. It is the second largest dam in Rajasthan. It is named after Jamnalal Bajaj
