Govt. moots Rs 30-cr cattle de-worming project and other initiatives :
1. The state government was mooting a de-worming project for all milch cattle in the state. The project, estimated to cost Rs 30 crore, would enable free de-worming of animals, twice a year, adding that this would not only keep the animals healthy, but also boost milk production.
About Deworming :
Deworming (sometimes known as worming, drenching or "dehelmintization") is the giving of an anthelmintic drug (a wormer, dewormer, or drench) to a human or animal to rid them of helminths parasites, such as roundworm, flukes and tapeworm.
Horses are most often dewormed with a paste or gel placed on the back of the animal's mouth via a dosing syringe; feed dewormers are also used, both single-dose varieties and in a daily, "continuous" feed form. Deworming (drenching) a sheep is usually done with a specific drenching gun that squirts an anthelmintic into the sheep's throat.
2. A cow sanctuary, “Gokul Gram”, would be set up in Thanakalan panchayat of Kutlehar to provide shelter to stray animals. 6 per cent cows and 40 per cent other stray cattle would be given shelter here, adding that micro enterprises utilising cow dung and cow urine for value addition will be promoted here.
3. The state government had set a target of smoke-free Himachal Pradesh by May 2019, under which all households would be provided LPG connections. In an effort to supplement Prime Minister Ujjwala Yojana initiated by the Union Government, the state government had launched the Mukhyamantri Grihini Yojana to provide LPG connections to one lakh families.
About Scheme :
‘Himachal Grihini Suvidha Yojana’ was aimed at empowerment of women and environment conservation. Women would be provided gas connections and it would ensure gas connections to all the households which have not been covered under the Ujjawala Scheme. A package of Rs 3500 would be provided under this scheme which would include gas cylinder and gas stove. With this, Himachal Pradesh would become first State of the country with every household with smoke-free kitchen.
4. A mobile health service would be made functional at Momaniar panchayat from February 10 under the ‘Saansad Mobile Swaasthya Sewa’ initiated in Hamirpur. The mobile van, equipped with a doctor, pharmacist, nurse and a lab technician had facilities for 40 diagnostic tests.
