Sitting at home or office you can track the city bus you intend to board using an app, Chalo. It is a free mobile app that helps people to plan their daily commute. It was launched on Friday under smart transport initiative of the government.

One needs to key in the route number of the bus or destination to get the desired information. The buses within the circumference of 4 to 5 km can be tracked using the app. A vehicle tracking device has been installed in each of the city bus.

Electric buses will also be covered under it once their operation starts. The app is being used by commuters in at least 15 other cities but Lucknow is the first city in UP to have got the facility. The app is available for free on the Google Play Store.

The app will help commuters to know the live arrival time of their bus so that they can leave for the bus stop accordingly; track the live GPS position of their bus on a map; find the cheapest and fastest trip options including all bus route options to their destinations; plan their trip door-to-door using a multi modal trip planner; travel safely with features such as emergency, SOS and live trip sharing with friends and family and locate bus stops closest to them.
