Born in 1921 in a family of traditional musicians of Jodhpur,Shrimati Gavari Devi was trained in Rajasthani folk music by Shrimati Jamunabai and her father Shri Bansilal. Shrimati Gavari Devi began singing professionally while still very young and in the course of a long career has endeared herself to audiences all over Rajasthan. Mand — a traditional song-mould of Rajasthan is her forte, in the rendering of which she has achieved a distinct style.
