Punjab Government has released Rs 112.78 crore under ‘Aashirwad’ scheme, under which the state government pays Rs 21,000 to the girls belonging to scheduled castes or backward classes families at the time of their wedding.

The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has announced that 300 units free (subsidised) electricity per month for freedom fighters would continue.A commercial circular issued from the PSPCL headquarters said as per the government decision and new tariff order issued by the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission on April 24, 2018, the 300 units free power to freedom fighters with domestic supply (DS) connections and sanctioned load of up to 1 KW, would continue for 2018-19.

The state has set up 10 Resedential Meritorious Schools in Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Mohali, Patiala, Sangrur, Hoshiarpur, Bathinda, Ferozepur and Gurdaspur.The Society for Promotion of Quality Education for Poor and Meritorious Students of Punjab, which is looking after the meritorious schools.
