Punjab Cabinet on Wednesday decided to set up a Rs 100-crore road safety fund in accordance with the Supreme Court guidelines of 2016 to enhance public safety on roads and to minimise road fatalities.The fund will be set up by diverting 50% of the compounding fee collected by road enforcement agencies, including police and transport departments. The proposed fund will be on the pattern of a similar fund created by Kerala in 2007.
The Punjab Health Minister rolled out the vision document of Health and Medical Education Department. He said that the motto of the Punjab Government is to provide quality health services to all the citizen of the state and the first big step towards achieving this aim is to start 2950 wellness centers across the state in phased manner to cater the healthcare services to the patients at their doorsteps especially in rural areas. Likewise 50 new ambulances will be rolled out including 5 Advance Life Saving Ambulances equipped with critical life saving equipments.
To save the precious time of needy patients while arranging blood, Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Brahm Mohindra launched a mobile application, e-Rakt Kosh, in a state-level function at the State Institute of Health and Family Welfare, Phase VI. Terming it a first-of-its-kind initiative in the state, the minister said with just touching the screen of a smartphone, the patient/others would know about the blood bank where the blood of their requirement was available.
