The Unionist Party, a secular party, was formed to represent the interests of Punjab's large feudal classes and gentry. Sir Sikandar Hyat Khan, Sir Fazli Husain, Chaudhry Sir Shahab-ud-Din, and Sir Chhotu Ram were the co-founders of the party. Although a majority of Unionists were Muslims, a large number of Hindus and Sikhs also supported and participated in the Unionist Party. In the 1937 Punjab Elections Unionist Party for the first time got more than 50% seats.The congress lost its position.In Punjab Sikandar Hayat Khan was called to form ministry.He formed his six men cabinet 3 Muslims, 2 Hindus and 1 Sikh.From Haryana, Chaudhary Chottu Ram and Chaudhary Tikka Ram were selected.
