Launched in 2015, the AMRUT scheme focuses on improving basic urban infrastructure to households entailing water supply facilities, sewerage networks, stormwater drains, urban transport, and open and green spaces, across the selected 500 Indian cities. The project has been implemented through a State Annual Action Plan (SAAP) prepared by the state’s 80 urban local bodies (ULBs) and approved by the Ministry of Urban Development. Assistance in the form of funds from the centre, technical assistance and model Request for Proposal (RFP) is provided to the state by the centre. The projects are implemented by the State-level High Powered Committee (SHPSC).
The total outlay under a centrally sponsored scheme is around Rs 50,000 crore for the period 2016 - 2021. The scheme will benefit 20 cities and towns of the Haryana state which had been included namely Faridabad, Gurgaon, Rohtak, Hisar, Panipat, Karnal, Sonipat, Yamunanagar, Panchkula, Bhiwani, Ambala, Sirsa, Bahadurgarh, Jind, Thanesar, Kaithal, Rewari, Palwal, Jagadhri and Ambala Sadar.
