The mountain state of Uttarakhand, India, attracted around 25 million tourists in 2015. The numbers are expected to reach 30 million by the end of 2018 and estimated 67 million by 2026. This influx in a region which is ecologically sensitive and disaster-prone, coupled with the rampant infrastructural development, pose a challenge and threat to the state. Experts have repeatedly recommended that the tourist numbers have to be regulated.
