The government of India (GOI) is establishing a Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) between Delhi and Mumbai, with terminals at Dadri in the National Capital region of Delhi and Jawaharlal Nehru Port near Mumbai. The corridor, covering a length of around 1500 km, will pass through six states of UP, National Capital territory of Delhi, Haryana,Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra.Theproject plans to create self sustaining industrial townships within the corridor.These townships would be served by multi-modal connectivity for freight movement as well as reliable power and air connectivity. The project incorporates Nine Mega Industrial zones of about 200–250sq km area, high-speed freight line,three ports and six airports; a six-lane intersection-free expressway connecting the country’s political and financial capitals and a 4,000-MW power plant.The corridor is expected to create 2.5 million new jobs.The DMIC covers nearly 14 districts of Haryana – 66% of the state’s total area.
