Who of the following said Haryana is derived from word 'Aryana' ?
Rahul Sandritayana
Satish Diwedi
Dr. H.R Gupta
None of the above
Scholars have divergent views about the origin of Haryana. Some derived its name from the word 'Har' or Green meaning an area of fertile land.In the opinion of Acharya Bhagwan Dev,it is closely linked with the word 'Hari',the Lord Mahadeva.Maharaj Krishan ascribed it to the word Haran which points out towards the habit of decoity and robbery of its people.Dr. H.R. Gupta opines that it has originated from the word Aryana 'the abode of the Aryans'.The word Haryana is also considered to be corrupt form of the word 'Abhiryana' meaning the place of Ahirs.
