Banas (hope of the forest) is the longest river in Rajasthan having full flow. It originates from hills of aravalli range near kumbhalgarh (Rajsamand) and passing through Udaipur, Chittaurgarh, Bhilwara, Ajmer and Tonk districts joins chambal near rameshwar in Sawai madhopur district. Its main tributaries are kothari, khari, bedach, dhundh, mashi and morel. This is the longest river flowing through the state. Its length is 512 km. Its catchment capacity is the highest. Beesalpur dam (Tonk district) is built over this river. In 1999-2000 launched by the centre, new centpercent scheem such as banas land water conservation was started in four district-Tonk, Jaipur, Sawai madhopur and Dausa.
