Yash Pal was born on 3, 1903 at Bhumpal in district Hamirpur. During his college he met Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev and joined the extremist group Hindustan Socialist Republican Army (HSRA). HSRA planned to blow up the train carrying Lord Irwin in 1929. Yashpal detonated that bomb. After the arrest of several leaders Yashpal helped Chandrashekhar Azad to reorganize HSRA. He was arrested in 1932 and remained in jail for 6 years. He was a gifted author and had written many books including the famous 'Simhabalokan'. He was awarded with Sahitya Akademi Award and Padma Bhushan.
