Explanation:

There has been signi?cant increase in production of electricity in Punjab through development of hydro, thermal and renewable energy. Industries are the largest consumer of power (34%) followed by agriculture (30%), domestic (25%), commercial & other (11%) consumers. Per capita consumption of electricity in the State has increased from 155 kWh in 1970 to 1204 kWh in 2011-12 . The total installed capacity and generation capacity have increased from 680 MW and 2364.80 Million KWH in the year 1970-71 to 5026 MW and 29033.00 Million KWH respectively in the year 2011-12. The contribution from renewable energy development projects in the state is 1005 MW, out of which more than 600 MW is grid connected.
