Uttar Pradesh Government launched the Women Empowerment Resolution Campaign to develop abilities in women for leadership and rights on November 20, 2018. The campaign was launched by the incumbent Chief Minister Yogi Aditya Nath.
More than 65 per cent of women in India don't know that eve teasing is legally a crime! Sections 294 and 509 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) prohibit any individual or group of people pass any kind of offensive comment or execute any such gesture towards a girl of any age.
Need for the campaign To combat the alarming situation of women safety in India, the state government in the past has launched several campaigns and laws. In addition to those, tasks, like installing CCTV cameras in most part of the city, buses, establishing fast track courts, establishing Nirbhaya fund, were also made. But due to lack of public awareness, these tend to fail. Looking at the objective of the campaign, it looks promising.
