In Punjab, the white eucalyptus trees stand proud in low-lying land.On marshy land and in low-lying areas close to riverbeds and lakebeds, eucalyptus was planted to dry out the land. Punjab has more than 300 species of TAHLI (Sheesham/ Dalbergia Sissoo) — a high quality broad leaf, dark brown tree about 30 to 45 feet tall — has spread to almost every area located at 120m to 1,250m above the sea level owing to the environment of the sub-continent.
The sagwan/Teak tree has an erect trunk, a cylindrical bole and an umbrella like beautiful crown. It tends to be fluted at the base. Its bark is thin, fibrous and light brown or grey in colour peeling off in long thin strips. Leaves are simple, opposite, large, roundish, broad, pointed and thick in structure found in the broad leaf forest ofPunjab in Malwa belt.
