As per the 2011 Census, Punjab has a total population of 27,704,236; previously it was 24,358,999 in the 2001 Census.From the total population of Punjab, the male population is 14,634,819 and the female population is 13,069,417. The population growth since the last census was 13.73 percent and the whole population of the state forms 2.29 percent of the entire population in India. The area of Punjab is 50,362 sq. km with a Density of 550 per sq km.
The Sex Ratio in Punjab is 893 for each 1000 male and has increased since the last census of 2001 in which it was 874 per 1000 males. The child sex ratio is 846 per 1000 males and has decreased as compared to 961 in the 2001 census.
