Martyrs of Alaboi battle remembered at Dadara

  • The Saraighat Journalists’ Forum obsereved Swahid Divas at a function held at Dadara HSS.

Alaboi battle:

  • Alaboi Battle is a landmark in the history of Assam.
  • Not know much about the battle fought between the invader Mughals and the Ahom army on August 14, 1669 at Alaboi near Dadara of Kamrup district.
  • Nearly 10,000 (may be more) Assamese soldiers laid down their lives for the sovereignty of Assam.
  • Kudos to Saraighat Journalists' Association, who in fact took up the endgels for mass awakening about the supreme sacrifice of Assamese soldiers at the altar of motherland and more importantly attracting attention of the historians to throw more light on the Alaboi battle.
  • This emboldened the Ahom King for retaliation after two years under the generalship of Lachit Borphukan that reached its climax in the battles of Saraighat where the Mughal soldiers under the commandership of Ram Singha met their 'Waterloo' at the hands of Assamese soldiers and thus expansionist policy of the Mughals to annex Assam was nipped in the bud.
