Punjab Republic Day tableau highlights Guru Tegh Bahadur’s sacrifice

The Republic Day tableau of Punjab for 2021 reflects the theme of the unparalleled and supreme sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru who laid down his life to uphold the eternal values of humanity, religious co-existence and freedom of faith.
Guru Tegh Bahadur, known as ‘Hind Di Chadar’, was a great philosopher, spiritual leader and poet.
The Guru took up the cause of Kashmiri Pandits who were facing religious persecution due to the orthodox religious policy of Mughal king Aurangzeb and was martyred on November 11, 1675, at Chandni Chowk.
The entire tableau delineates an aura marking the 400th Parkash Purb of the ninth Sikh Guru.
Notably, the tableau of Punjab has been selected for the Republic Day parade for the fifth consecutive year. The state’s tableau got the third position in 2019.
Uttar Pradesh was adjudged the best tableau among the 32 tableaux, 17 from States and Union Territories (UTs), nine from various ministries, departments and paramilitary forces and six from Defence Ministry, that participated in the Republic Day parade 2021.

Tableau of Tripura which showcased eco-friendly traditions for achieving self-reliance in socio-economic parameters was adjudged the second best and the tableau of Uttarakhand was adjudged the third best. Uttarakhand tableau was themed ‘Dev Bhoomi’ - ‘The Land of the Gods’.
Among the nine tableaux from various Ministries, Departments, Paramilitary Forces and Defence Ministry, the Department of Biotechnology tableau won the top honour. The tableau depicted Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan: COVID, the process of vaccine development through various processes.
The tableau of Central Public Works Department (CPWD), with the theme ‘Amar Jawan’, bagged the special prize for paying tribute to the fallen heroes of the Armed Forces.
