The North Eastern Regional Institute of Water and Land Management (NERIWALM) was established at Tezpur, Assam by North Eastern Council (NEC), in December, 1989 when NEC was under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India. The Institute’s was registered under Society Registration Act, XXI of 1860. After signing a tripartite agreement in the form of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation (MoWR, RD &GR), Govt. of India, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Govt. of India and NEC, the Institute was transferred to MoWR, RD & GR, Govt. of India with effect from 1st April, 2012. Since then the Institute is under the administrative control of MoWR, RD & GR, Govt. of India. The Instituted is situated in 3km away from the historically famous town of Tezpur, Sonitpur district of Assam which is located on the north bank of mighty river Brahmaputra at about 180 km from Guwahati. It is connected by road, rail and air with other parts of the country.
