Recently a bench of Chief Justice of Patna High Court Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice S Kumar ruled Kiran Gupta is a resident of Nepal and was a citizen of the same. After her marriage to a native of India, she started living with her husband and bought property in India in her own name and she was the mukhiya of Manikpur in Runnisaidpur, Sitamarhi in 2018. The election of mukhiya was won, after she won the election, her election was challenged that she is not a citizen of India, on which the Patna High Court bench ruled that a woman cannot become a citizen of India by marrying a native of India even he should have Voter ID card of India, PAN card, Aadhaar card. She has to apply under citizenship law to become a citizen of India.
