Residents of Lahaul-Spiti have reiterated their demand for construction of an airstrip for defence and civilian purposes here.
Since the India-China face-off in the Galwan valley of the Ladakh region, the demand for the airstrip is getting intensive. The  airstrip would boost the tourism sector and in the time of need, it can be used by the Army to send supplies. The construction of the airstrip at Rangrik in Spiti Valley was a poll plank of the BJP during the Lok Sabha elections 2014 as well as 2019, but nothing had been done on the ground to execute the project. The state government is planning to construct an airport at Mandi but till now, not much progress has been made in this direction.

• Lahaul-Spiti shares its boundary with China in Spiti Valley, which requires an airstrip for defense purposes with immediate effect because China has already developed road infrastructure close to India.
• Construction of an airstrip and promotion of winter sports would be our main demands.
