Context: Recently, the government has announced that Haryana will host the fourth edition of Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) after Tokyo Olympics.
Key Points

• “Usually the Khelo India Youth Games take place in January of every year. However, this time owing to the pandemic, it postponed.
• “As a state Haryana has always promoted sports in a big way and supported its athletes. Hosting the Khelo India Youth Games in Haryana will only add greater impetus to our commitment towards creating a strong sporting ecosystem.
• The 2021 Khelo India Youth Games are scheduled to take place after the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and will be held in Panchkula (Haryana).
• The 2021 Tokyo Olympics are set to open on 23rd July.
• In 2020, for the first time, the Olympics were postponed following the Covid-19 outbreak.

About Khelo India

• The scheme is implemented by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
• The scheme aims to revive the sports culture in India and promote excellence in sports.

It is a merger of following schemes

• Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan (RGKA)
• Urban Sports Infrastructure Scheme (USIS)
• National Sports Talent Search Scheme (NSTSS)

Under the scheme, talented players identified at various levels by the High-Powered Committee will be provided annual financial assistance of INR 5 lakh per annum for 8 years.
