Punjab releases funds for effluent treatment plant:-
In a relief for the Punjab Dyers Association, the state government has released a subsidy for the installation of the common effluent treatment plant (CETP) on the Tajpur Road. the member secretary of the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) wrote to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF), asking it to release its share of Rs 12 crore at the earliest so that the CETP could be installed in a time-bound period.
The project was sanctioned by the MoEF with a grant-in-aid of Rs 15 crore. Of which, the first installment of Rs 3 crore was released to the board in December 2019 and February 2020. It also mentioned that the state government had sanctioned Rs 7.50 crore for the plant which was to come up on the Tajpur Road, of which Rs 1.50 crore was released in June 2018.
Common effluent treatment plants (CETPs) are treatment systems specifically designed for collective treatment of effluent generated from small-scale industrial facilities in an industrial cluster. Individual effluent treatment plants (ETPs) generally face problems from lack of space, resources, capital cost, and specialized manpower for operation and maintenance, which are especially exacerbated for small-scale industrial facilities.
These problems are reduced by collective treatment of effluent from a large number of small-scale facilities at a single site where the effluent undergoes similar treatment to what it would be subjected to individually.
