• Plucking of tea leaves commenced in several districts of the State and even as this piece is being written, the tea factories are being worked up, beginning with the firing of the withering troughs. With the climate favourable this year, the overall tea production should be at par with recent averages. All now await the post Bihu seasonal rains, for the really good second flush (of tea leaves) to grow.
• On the north bank of the Brahmaputra too, Dhemaji, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darrang, etc., districts have permitted functioning of the tea industry; the only condition being adherence to COVID-19 safety precautions.

Assam tea is worldwide famous full-bodied tea with robust flavor produced in the state of Assam in India. It is the largest tea producing area in India, making up to more than 50% of all tea production in the country. Try imagining fields of 304 thousand hectares covered by tea bushes. Assam tea has a long history of almost two hundred years. When British decided to plant their own tea in India, they probably didn't have in mind Assam will grow into enormous tea production state.
