Gardens of Jammu and Kashmir are dealing with the beautiful designs of Mughal times in medieval era. Gardens of Jammu and Kashmir are the most beautiful Mughal gardens that were built in medieval era. Srinagar host the maximum number of Mughal gardens that were built in Middle Ages. The terrace gardens of Shalimar Garden and Nishat Bagh offers a magnificent view of mountains of Pir Panjal Range and Dal lake. Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, Nishat bagh, Shalimar Bagh and Chashmi Bagh are the most beautiful gardens in Jammu and Kashmir. Shalimar Bagh :
Shalimar Bagh is the largest Mughal garden in India. It is located at northeast of Dal Lake near Srinagar city, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir along with other famous lake garden Nishat Bagh. The Bagh has the Dal Lake in the background and considered to be very beautiful during the autumn and spring seasons.
The first of the Mughal Garden is the Shalimar Garden in Srinagar, located just beside the Dal Lake. Built by the Mughal emperor, Jahangir, for his wife Nur Jahan in 1616, it represents the finest elements of Mughal architecture. The garden is dotted with fountains, trees and a variety of flowers that burst into bloom during spring and autumn. The magnificence of the gardens extends to its upper terraces, which were once reserved for the emperor and ladies of the household. During the tourist season, which lasts from May to October, a sound & light show is held in the evening. Nishat Bagh :
Nishat Bagh is one of the most beautiful terraced Mughal garden located at the side of the famous Dal Lake near Srinagar in Srinagar District of Jammu and Kashmir. The Garden of Gladness or Nishat Bagh is the second largest Mughal garden in the Kashmir Valley located on the bank of the Dal Lake with the Zabarwan Mountain Range at the back and offers a magnificent view of Pir Panjal Mountain. Achabal Garden :
Achabal Garden is one of the most splendid tourist attractions in Anantnag District and one of the finest masterpieces of Mughal style gardens in India. Achabal Garden is also known as the place of the princes and attracts thousands of tourists from all over the globe every year. Chashma Shahi :
Chashme Shahi is one of the beautiful Mughal gardens built around a spring in the Zabarwan Range. A fresh water spring, terraces, water pool and a large fountain makes it the most charming of the gardens near Srinagar along the banks of the Dal lake.
The beauty of Chashma Shahi, or, Royal Spring gardens, has stolen the heart of royalty since historical times, from Mughals to Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Like so many other magnificent structures, it was built by Shah Jehan in 1632. It compensates for its small size with its delightful landscape which is marked by flowers, fruits and chinar trees. There is a freshwater spring inside the garden, whose water is believed to contain medicinal properties. It owes its popularity to its terraces, fountains and waterfalls, and affords lovely views of the Dal Lake. Pari Mahal :
Pari Mahal is a beautiful seven terraced garden over-looking the city of Srinagar at the top of Zabarwan mountain range in Srinagar of Srinagar District of Jammu and Kashmir. The garden is the property of the Srinagar government and also known as the Worlds Beautiful High Altitude Paramilitary Camp.
Even though Pari Mahal is included as a Mughal garden, it is more a historical monument. Once a Buddhist monastery, it was later converted into an observatory and a school of astrology. It is mostly famous for its terraced gardens, apart from its immense historical value. Verinag Garden :
Verinag Garden lies at the entry point of Kashmir Valley in the summer capital of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. This is the first tourist spot of Kashmir Valley. Verinag Spring of Mughal and surrounding area is officially recognized by Archaeological Survey of India and a Monument of National Importance. Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden :
Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden is situated in Srinagar city of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is famed for hosting the largest tulip garden of Asia. Spanning over an area of 12 hectares, the beautiful garden is located on the foothills of Zabarwan Mountain Range.
Bagh - e- Bahu :
In Jammu, the Bagh-e-Bahu is the most famous garden in Jammu. It shares a similarity with the other gardens mentioned above, especially when it comes to fountains. The difference is the sculptures which are seated on a rock, and stare curiously at onlookers. The garden is topped by an enormous artificial lake enveloped by excellently managed lawns, flower beds and stoned walkaways. The garden offers wonderful views of River Tawi from the top.
