Madhya Pradesh government releases a ranking of Urban Cities :
1. The ranking of the municipal corporations issued by Urban Administration and Housing Development (UAHD) of the MP Government, has Chhindwara constituency topping the list, followed by Burhanpur and Dewas.
2. In a bid to comprehensively assess the urban development of Madhya Pradesh, the state government released its own ranking, to access cities on six broad parameters. Unlike the Union Government ranking, the state ranking states Chhindwara on top followed by Burhanpur and Dewas, wherein Bhopal is ranked in the eighth position followed by Indore in eleventh.
3. The rankings are to get a balanced view on urban development, with a special focus of Swachha Bharat ranking, besides other methodology of including programmes of Urban development.
4. Similar to the Union government's ranking, Gwalior and Jabalpur division are at the bottom of the rankings. Drawing focus on the performance of Municipal Commissioners, Urban Administration and Housing Development (UAHD) department has set multi-parameters, besides Swachha Bharat.
5. The state government ranking is based on an assessment of broader criteria, including cleanliness, implementation of project under AMRUT, housing development and urban livelihood mission and smart city development.
Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) :
Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) was launched by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi in June 2015 with the focus to establish infrastructure that could ensure adequate robust sewage networks and water supply for urban transformation by implementing urban revival projects. Rajasthan was the first state in the country to submit State Annual Action Plan under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT). The scheme Housing for All by 2022 and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) were launched on the same day. The scheme is dependent with public–private partnership(PPP) model. If required, various other schemes like Swachh Bharat Mission, Housing for All 2022, along with the local state schemes like that related to water supply and sewerage and other infrastructure related schemes can be linked to AMRUT.
Mission : The purpose of Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) is to (i) ensure that every household has access to a tap with assured supply of water and a sewerage connection; (ii) increase the amenity value of cities by developing greenery and well maintained open spaces (e.g. parks); and (iii) reduce pollution by switching to public transport or constructing facilities for non-motorized transport (e.g.walking and cycling).
Finance : About ?1 lakh crore (US$14 billion) investment on urban development under Smart Cities Mission and the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation of 500 cities has already been approved by the government.
