Wainganga river is the tributary of Godavari river. It originates in the Mahadeo Hills in Madhya Pradesh than flows towards south in a winding course through the states of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, roughly 579 km (360 mi). After joining the Wardha river the united stream, which is known as the Pranhita river empties into the Godavari river. Upper Wainganga project is the main project on Wainganga river. Wainganga is the only river of Madhya Pradesh which flows towards south.
