    Madhya Pradesh State Commission for Women :

    At present chairperson of MP State Commission for Women is Lata Wankhede.

    The purpose of the formation of the State Women's Commission :

    1. To empower women in the state, to take care of and protect the interests of women, to discriminate against women, to take measures to eliminate conditions and provisions, to ensure their dignity and respect, to give them equal opportunities for development in every field. , State Women's Commission has been constituted in the state to take prompt action on atrocities and crimes against women.

    2. The State Women's Commission is working as a friend, teacher, well-wisher and willful counselor of women. This commission is a constitutional body with powers of civil court. This commission has the status of a vigilant investigator, tester and observer. The Commission is an authority body whose recommendations the government cannot ignore.

    3. This commission is seven members, six members are non-government and one member is government. Out of the non-government, the state government has given the status of Minister to the Chairman and other members as Minister of State. Madhya Pradesh State Women Commission was first constituted by the State Government on 23 March 1998 under Section 3 of the Madhya Pradesh State Women Commission Act 1995 (No. 20 of 1996).

    Powers of civil court received by commission :

    • To summon a person and present him on oath.
    • Expecting the disclosure and production of any documents.
    • Adoption of evidence on letters.
    • To examine any public record or copy thereof from any court or office.
    • Issue of commission for examination of witnesses and documents.

    The structure :

    •  Director - 1
    •  Private member -  5
    • Official member -  1
    •  Member secretary - 1

    The Chairperson of the Commission and all non-government members are nominated from specific fields (eg social workers, education, medicine, law). The Deputy Secretary, Department of Women and Child Development is the official member of the Commission.

    Work of Madhya Pradesh State Commission : The Commission shall perform all or any of the following functions, ie

    • To investigate and audit all matters relating to the protections provided under the Constitution and other laws for women,
    • To the State Government annually and at such other times as To submit a report on the implementation of such protections that the Commission considers appropriate;
    • Women in the Constitution and other statutes Taking matters of violation of the provisions made in relation to the appropriate authorities,
    • Participating in and advising in the process of planning the socio-economic development of women,
    • Funding of cases in which such issues are involved, Who influence a large group of women.
    • Conducting an in-depth study on the following: Economic, educational and health status of the women of the state. It will specially focus on tribal districts and areas which are less developed in terms of women's literacy, mortality and economic development. Circumstances in which women work in factory establishments, construction sites and similar conditions and to improve the status of women in the said areas are to be recommended to the State Government based on specific reports. 
    • All crimes against women in the state or in selected areas, including cases related to women's marriage and dowry, rape, adultery, kidnapping, molestation, unethical trade of women and medical neglect at the time of delivery or sterilization. There are cases of medical intervention related to pregnancy or childbirth, Compile information periodically. 
    • To co-ordinate with the State Cell and District Cells, if any, for raising public opinion in the entire State or in specified areas against atrocities against women so that crime of such atrocities can be quickly reported and detected and against such crimes Will help in raising public opinion.

    Recommendations sent by the Commission to the Department of Home Affairs :

    • Report of the complaint should be lodged in the police station in which the victim is going to complain.
    • Medical should also be done by the lady doctor through the same police station without any delay. In case of non-availability of government doctors, get them registered with registered medical practitioner.
    • Since in most rape cases, the doctor's report is unclear or he gives his opinion about the victim's personal life style which has nothing to do with the case. Medical doctors should be specially trained for these cases from time to time.
    • Must be checked by the Class One lady officer.
    • Instructions should be given to each investigating officer to complete the research in rape cases in a stipulated period so that there is no unnecessary delay.
    • Psychological and medical facilities should be made available to the victim immediately, to ensure that there is no possibility of women getting any physical illness like AIDS, urinary infection etc. due to the reduction of this crime. If the crime occurs, the victim is likely to conceive it should be diagnosed.
    • The details of the victim and witnesses should be taken immediately under Section 164 Criminal Procedure Code and action should be taken to identify the accused under Section 54 (a) Criminal Procedure Code.A separate fast track court should be set up at the divisional level for hearing rape cases.
    • Report of every recorded rape crime occurring in the state, in which the medical report should be sent to the State Women's Commission as soon as possible in 7 days, information regarding the arrest of the accused and all aspects related to the investigation.
    • Essentially, action should be taken from time to time to make police, health department and judiciary sensitive towards women.
    • Rehabilitation program should be implemented for rape victims.
