Katni District, Madhya Pradesh :
Katni District of Madhya Pradesh is more or less in the shape of an oval. The district of Katni was formed in the year 1998. Katni district in the state of Madhya Pradesh is located in the north-eastern part of Madhya Pradesh. It forms the northern district of Jabalpur commissionerate division. Mudwara was the biggest (area wise) tehsil of Jabalpur before Katni came as a district in 1998. The district extends from 23 degrees 37 minutes north to 24 degrees 80 minutes north and from 79 degrees 57 minutes east to 80 degrees 58 minutes east. Geography :
The three major rivers which run through the Katni District are Katni, Chhoti Mahanadi and Umdar. And the name Katni of mudwara is given after the Katni River, which is two km away from Mudwara. The shape of this district is roughly oval. Regarding the climate of Katni it can be said that it is more or less average and the district gains seasonal advantage from more or less all seasons. Katni is also known as city of lime so many types of minerals are hidden in the heart of Katni The main materials that are found in the various tehsil of Katni are lime stone, dolomite, bauxite, latrite, clay, fire clay, soapstone, quartz etc. Main crops of katni are paddy wheat, gram and pulses. In cash crop mainly vegetables are grown. Administration :
Since the beginning of 20th century Mudwara (Katni) has been given the status of town. Development work of the town has been started along with the British rule. Government MP has set up a district administration in 1998 after upgrading Tehsil Katni to District. It was a major task for the district administration to bring up Katni as the developed district. Katni is progressing day by day and giving facilities to the citizen of the district. Education :
In the field of education Katni is frontrunner. There has been sudden enhancement in higher education also. A number of new professional colleges have been set up which are providing Masters Degree in technical fields also. Economy :
Katni is an ancient city in which many industries are located in whole district. As minerals are found in large part of Katni so the industries of mineral based are growing rapidly besides these pulses mills are very much found in Katni. All these have made good position of Katni in commerce and industry field. There is also a good market of cereals and other agro-based products in Katni. Katni District also has a good cloth market. Altogether it can be said that Katni is a commercial centre which enjoys a strategic location because it enjoys the advantage of national highway and train routes. In fact Katni District in the present age is so commercially advanced that it enjoys all the luxuries of modern communication.
Places of Attraction :
There are various places to visit in Katni. Some places are of Historical importance.
Badera Chaturyug Dham– Caturyug Dham nicely explains the four yugas as per Hindu mythology. The first floor is dedicated to Sat Yuga, the second floor to Treta Yuga, the third one to the Dwapar Yuga and the top floor to the Kal Yuga. The temple is high enough and offers to get view of the village and nearby area.
Vijayraghavgarh Fort– Fort is located in Vijayraghavgarh Town (35 kms from Katni). Katni district has a history of glorious past and this beautiful fort is another example of that.In front of the fort is the croweded town of Vijayraghavgarh and on other sides is the lush green jungle. In front of the fort there is a small temple having bright white marble Shivling behind which is located another beautiful Shiva temple.
Roopnath Dhaam– Roopnath Dhaam is located at the end of beautiful camore hills which runs all along the road to Roopnath Dham.
Kamakandla Fort– Kamakandla Fort is less like a fort and more like a temple which is dedicated to lord shiva. There used to be a big Shivling in it which has lost its Lingham and only Yoni is present now. There’s great painting on the ceiling of the temple. Many ancient scriptures are put in the fort. Local people consider it a divine place and call it as TAPASI MATH.
Vishnu Varah Temple- Vishnu varah temple is located at Karitalai (Karanpur) in Vijayraghavgarh town of Katni district is a big archaeological site. It is an important heritage of Katni and is being protected by Government Tourism department. The Varah, Kachha (Tortoise) and Machha (Fish) are too good to see. Architecture and Art is must see.
