Anusuya Prasad Bahuguna started his early education from the village and did his high school from the Mission School in Pauri. B.Sc from Allahabad University in 1912 and LLB in 1916.In 1919, Anusuya Prasad attended a Congress conference in Lahore with barrister Mukundilal. After coming to Baapis from Bah, he got fully involved in the freedom movement. Between 1919-20, there was an agitation against the Coolie forced labor practice throughout Uttarakhand, and Anusaya Prasad took over the reins in British Garhwal. Due to the bold step taken by Anusuya Prasad Bahuguna, the public started calling him Gadkeshri. Anusuya Prasad Bahuguna raised his voice against the corruption spreading in the temples of Kedarnath and Badrinath between 1916 and 1924, after which the administration had to enact laws.
Anusuya Prasad Bahuguna also had to go to jail in 1930 with the help of Satyagraha movement. Once again, when the Satyagraha movement took place in 1940, he had to go to Bareilly jail and was also under house arrest during the Quit India Movement in 1942.The patriot who dreamed of independence took leave from this place on 23 March 1943, before becoming independent. Hardly this great agitator can ever be forgotten and whenever there is mention of independence, the name of Gadkeshri will always be remembered.
