Medicinal Herbs in Madhya Pradesh :
Madhya Pradesh state is located in the center of India. The name ''Madhya Pradesh'' it self means 'central province'. The state of Madhya Pradesh is endowed with very rich and varied natural forest resources. Out of its total geographical area of 308 thousand sq. kms., 95 thousand sq. kms. (about 31%) is under forest cover. These forests are home to the largest tiger population in the country (hence, the state is also known as the Tiger State of India). These forests are also home to innumerable medicinal plants. The Indian sub continent it self is a mega biodiversity region. India is divided into 16 Agro climatic zones, out of which 11 are represented in Madhya Pradesh. This explains the range of soil and climatic conditions prevailing in this state. This is why; most of the tropical medicinal herbs can be grown in Madhya Pradesh. Following are the medicinal herbs in Madhya Pradesh :
Shatavar :
The roots are bitter, emollient, cooling, nervine tonic, diuretic, aphrodisiac, rejuvenating, ophthalmic, appetizer and useful in diarrhea and rheumatic complaints. It is useful in dyspepsia, colic pain, inflammation, nephropathy, hepatogathy, tumours, burning, sensation, hyperdipsia, stangury, throat infections etc.
Kalmegh :
The whole plant is bitter, hepatic, alterative, stimulant, antileprotic, Digestive and Nutritive. It is substitute of 'Chiratta'. It is widely used for dyspepsia, chronic fever, malaria, influenza etc.
Aonla :
An antioxidant with the free radical scavenging properties, which is hepatoprotective, antimutagenic, cytoprotective, antitumour & antimicrobial. It is effective in the treatment of peptic ulcer, dyspepsia, diabetes etc.
Harra :
It is anti-inflammatory, an appetizer, purgative, carminative, anthelmintic and stomachic, anodyne. It is used for skin diseases, uterine debility, constipation, cough,asthma, diabetise etc.
Baheda :
It is anti-inflammatory, an appetizer, purgative, carminative, anthelmintic and stomachic, anodyne. It is used for skin diseases, uterine debility, constipation, cough, asthma, diabetes etc.
Arjun :
It is diuretic, astringent, cooling, spasmogenic, demulcent, alexiteric heart tonic etc. It is significantly effective on cardiovascular system, tuberculosis, polyuria, inflammation tumors, cough, fever and dysentery. It is an excellent controller of cholesterol and lipid level in the body.
Ashvagandha :
Ashwagandha is a sedative, tonic, stimulant, aphrodisiac and helps toning of uterus. It restores loss of memory and is used in cases of nervous exhaustion spermatorrhoea and senile debility. It is used as an antistress, immunomodulalory, anticancer antioxidant, anticonvulsive, anthelminthic, antiarthritic, antibacterial, cardioprotective, antidepressant, antitoxic, hypoglycaemic, diuretic and hypocholesteraemic, immunosuppressive, adaptogenic and antiradical.
Gilloy :
The stem is bitter astringent, sweet, thermogenic, anodyne, anthelmintic, alterant, antiperiodic, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, antiemetic, digestive, carminative, appetizer, stomachic, constipatig, cardiotonic, depurative, haematimic, expectorant, aphrodisiac, rejuvenating, galacto-purifier and tonic. It is useful in burning sensation hyperdipsia, helminthiasis, dyspepsia, flatulence,stomachalgia, intermittent fevers, chronic fevers, inflammations, gout, vomiting, cardiac debility, skin diseases, leprosy, erysipelas, anaemia, cough, asthma, general debility, jaundice, seminal weakness, uropathy and splenopathy.
Nirgundi :
It is helpful in strengthening the eyes, hair, reduce swelling and nausea, and help in many types of ear diseases. Helps with swollen joints, sprains, ulcers, liver, and menopause.
Anantmool :
It clears through obstruction, cough and increages digestive power. Its decoction is a remedy for diysuria, inflammation, skin disorder and leprosy.
Triphala :
Triphala is a balanced energetic formula gently helps in elimination and purification of unwanted substances from the body. On account of its excellent nutritive, anti-oxidantal and laxative properties it is used for blood and liver or gall bladder cleansing.
Bach :
It is a nerve tonic, muscle relaxant and tranquilizing. It is good for dyspepsia, colic, remittent fever, epilepsy, bronchitis and throat disorder. It is an expectorent, anthelmintic, antipyretic, carminative and mild laxative.
