On Good Governance Day, December 25, Karnal’s Sirsi village will become the first village in Haryana to put an end to the practice of ‘lal dora’. Principal Secretary, Development and Panchayats Department, Sudhir Rajpal had been directed to compile details of gram panchayat properties under ‘lal dora’ and make it available to the Survey of India. The details would be matched with the map prepared through a drone.
What is Lal Dora property?
The term 'Lal Dora' came into existence in 1908 during the British rule. It was used to classify that portion of the village land which is part of the village 'abadi' (habitation). Such lands are supposed to be used for non-agricultural purpose only, and are exempted from building by-laws
