Uttarakhand Chief Minister – Trivendra Singh Rawat :
Trivendra Singh Rawat , born on 20 December 1960 is an Indian politician and is the eighth and current Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.
Rawat was a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh from 1979 to 2002 and held the post of organizing secretary of the Uttarakhand region, and later the Uttarakhand state, after the state's formation in 2000. He was elected from Doiwala in the State's first legislative assembly elections in 2002. He retained his seat in the 2007 elections and served as the State's Minister of Agriculture. As a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, he served as Jharkhand's in-charge and Uttarakhand cadre's president. Winning from Doiwala again in 2017, he was named the Chief Minister after his party won majority and formed the government.
Early life and career :
Rawat was born on 20 December 1960 in the village of Khairasain in the Kotdwar tehsil, in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. He was the ninth and youngest child in the family. He obtained his master's degree in journalism from Birla Campus in Srinagar affiliated to the Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University.
Rawat joined the right-wing organization Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in 1979 before becoming its pracharak (apostle) for the Dehradun region in 1985. Subsequently, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the political party associated with it. He was made BJP's organizing secretary for the Uttarakhand region and worked with senior leader Lalji Tandon at the time. He was also actively involved in the Uttarakhand movement, during which he was arrested several times. After the region received statehood in 2000, Rawat was made the state cadre's BJP president.
He lost a by-election from Doiwala in 2014, when the seat was vacated by former chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal. In 2017 he won the same Assembly constituency of Doiwala. In July 2019, Trivendra Singh Rawat said that cow is the only animal that exhales oxygen and that living in close proximity to cows could cure tuberculosis. This unscientific statement sparked off a controversy.
Trivendra Singh was born on 20 December 1960 in the house of Pratap Singh Rawat and Bhoda Devi. The father of Trivendra Rawat, Pratap Singh Rawat has been working in the Army's BEG Roorkee Corps.Trivendra Singh is the youngest of 9 siblings. Rawat's early studies were in Khairassain. Trivendra passed the Class 10 examination from Satpuli Inter College and Pareshwar Inter College in Pauri district.Trivendra Singh Rawat, who was calm from the beginning, did his graduation from Jaiharikhal Degree College, Lansdowne and postgraduate degree from Garhwal University, Srinagar. Trivendra Singh Rawat moved to Dehradun in 1984 after doing his MA in Journalism from Srinagar University. He was married to Sunita Rawat. Sunita Rawat is a teacher and is posted in Dehradun. They have two daughters.
Rawat's political journey began in the year 1979.In the same year Trivendra joined Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. In the year 1981, he pledged to work as an RSS pracharak. In 1985, Dehradun became a preacher of the metropolis. In 1993, he became the BJP's regional organization minister.
High Command made him BJP State Organization General Secretary in 1997 and 2002. Trivendra Singh Rawat won from Doiwala in the 2002 assembly elections for the first time after Uttarakhand became a separate state. He continued his winning streak and won Vijayashree once again from Doiwala in the 2007 assembly elections. He was the Minister of Agriculture in the BJP government from 2007 to 2012.
At the same time, he contested and lost the Raipur assembly seat in the 2012 assembly elections. He also had to face defeat in the 2014 by-election in Doiwala seat. In the year 2014, he was made the state in-charge of Jharkhand. In 2017, he won from Doiwala seat in Uttarakhand assembly elections.
