Udham Singh Nagar district :
Udham Singh Nagar District is a district of Uttarakhand state in northern India. Rudrapur is the district headquarters. This district consists of seven Tehsils named Bajpur, Gadarpur, Jaspur, Kashipur, Kichha, Khatima, Sitarganj. The district is located in the Terai region, and is part of Kumaon Division. It is bounded on the north by Nainital District, on the northeast by Champawat District, on the east by Nepal, and on the south and west by Bareilly, Rampur, Moradabad, Pilibhit and Bijnor District of Uttar Pradesh state. The district was created in October 1995 by Mayawati government out of Nainital District. It is named for freedom fighter and Indian revolutionary Shaheed-i-Azam Sardar Udham Singh.
As of 2011 it is the third most populous district of Uttarakhand (out of 13), after Haridwar and Dehradun. G.B. Pant University, noted for its engineers & agriculture scientists, is located 5 km from Rudrapur.
Demographics :
According to the 2011 census Udham Singh Nagar district has a population of 1,648,367, roughly equal to the nation of Guinea-Bissauor the US state of Idaho. This gives it a ranking of 303rd in India (out of a total of 640). The district has a population density of 648 inhabitants per square kilometre (1,680/sq mi) . Its population growth rate over the decade 2001-2011 was 33.4%.Udham Singh Nagar has a sex ratio of 919 females for every 1000 males, and a literacy rate of 74.44%
History :
According to Historians, hundreds of years ago village Rudrapur was established by a devotee of lord Rudra or by Hindu tribal chief called Rudra, which has passed through phases of development to take the shape of city Rudrapur. The importance of Rudrapur has increased as it is the head quarter of district Udham Singh Nagar. During the reigns of mughal emperor Akbar this land was handed over to king Rudra Chandra in 1588. The king established a permanent millitary camp to free tarai from day today invasions. Totaly neglected village Rudrapur was filled with new colours and human activities.There is a saying that Rudrapur was named after king Rudra Chandra. During the reigns of Britishers, Nainital was made a district and in 1864-65 the whole Tarai and Bhawar was put under “Tarai and Bhawar Government Act” which was governed directly by the British crown.
The history of development started with 1948, when the problem of partition brought refugee problem with it. Immigrant from north west and eastern areas were reestablished in 164.2 square km land area under “Up Nivesh Yojana”. Personal dwellers were not allotted land in accordance with crown grant act. The first batch of immigrants came in December 1948.
People from Kashmir,Punjab,Kerala,Eastern UP,Garhwal, Kumaon,Bengal, Haryana,Rajasthan, Nepal, and South India live in groups in this districts.
Economy :
The district of UdhamSinghNagar ia an agro-industrial district. Agriculture based industry are found throughout the district in all blocks and tehsils. With the upcoming of SIDCUL different industries exist in IIE at PantNagar and Sitarganj. Apart from the above industries can be found spread in all blocks and tehsils.

Drona Sagar :
Drona Sagar is well known spots and is associated with the story of the Pandevas. Today Kashipur is an important industrial township.
Nanak Sagar Dam :
A dam has been constructed on river Saryu at Nanak Matta forming Nanak Sagar which adds up to the beauty of Nanakmatta . The dams of Baur, Haripura, Nanakmatta,Dhaura,Tumaria,Baigul are present in the district which have made this land extremely fertile. Only Lohia Head on river Sharda in Khatima generates electricity.
Chaiti Temple :
The temple is devoted to Goddess Chaiti and is situated in Kashipur city of Udham Singh Nagar. Every year during Navaratri, the temple hosts a grand fair that attracts large numbers of devotees.
Purnagiri Temple :
Considered as one of the popular temples in the Udham Singh Nagar district, the temple is situated at the top of the hill and is located at a distance of 20 km from Tanakpur. Every year a large number of devotees of Goddess Purnagiri come here to get blessings.
Atariya Temple :
One can witness the ten days fair during Navaratri. The temple witnesses the large numbers of devotees during this time and is situated at a distance of around 2.5 km from Rudrapur.
Nanakmatta :
Situated in Udham Singh Nagar District, Nanakmatta is the town with endless magnificence, and it is applauded as one of the holy pilgrimage sites of Uttarakhand named after the most revered first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev. Nanakmatta is situated on the banks of Deoha River which is presently dammed into a beautiful reservoir popularly known as the Nanak Sagar. The Gurdwara is one of the three most important Sikh holy shrines in Uttarakhand, others being Gurdwara Hemkunt Sahib and Gurdwara Reetha Sahib. Nanakmatta carries the belief that Guru Nanak Dev in 1514, paid a visit here during his third udasi, and got involved in meditation and preaching the ardent devotees. Before this, the land was the house of worship of Guru Gorakhnath and was commonly known as "Gorakh Matta". Guru Nanak Dev was so allured by the grace of the town that he showered his blessings here which transformed and resulted in the growth of Nanakmatta.
