Child Development related initiatives of Uttarakhand Government :
Uttarakhand Child Right Protection Commission:
The Cabinet has given its consent in the year 2011-12 for constitution of Uttarakhand Child Rights Protection Commission. In place of State Child Development Board, Child Right Protection Commission has been established in the State. Under this commission, its Chairman, one member and office staff is already working.
Uttarakhand State Nutrition Board :
Under the National Nutrition Policy 1993 and National Nutrition Action Plan, 1996 for monitoring the nutrition action plan of Uttarakhand, the Uttarakhand State Nutrition Board has been established under the Chairmanship of hon’ble Chief Minister by Letter no. 24020/XVII (2)/2010 dated 03 January 2011 of Women Empowerment and Child Development Department, Government of Uttarakhand. In this board along with hon’ble Ministers of Women Empowerment and Child Development, Agriculture, Food and Civil Supplies, Education, Forest & Environment, Medical Health and Family Welfare, Information & Public Relation, Labour, Urban Development, Social Welfare, Rural Development, Drinking water, two Vice Chairmen, 5 specialists and 5 institutions have been included. To review the inter-department coordination in implementation of action plan of Uttarakhand regarding nutrition, an inter-departmental coordination committee has been set up under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary.
Children’s Day Celebrations:
Children’s Day celebrations are orgaised on all districts on the occasion of International Children’s Day on 14th November. Healthy Baby Show, Drawing and Essay competitions are organised on this day. The members of Children’s Development Board hold meetings and camps in districts for awareness of child rights.
Monitoring of Supplementary Nutritional Feeding:
There is an important scheme of Supplementary Nutritional Feeding Department for beneficiaries of ICDS. For monitoring its activities the State Government provides human resources and other facilities by its own sources.
Additional honorarium to Anganwadi workers:
The Uttarakhand State is paying Rs.1500/- to Anganwadi workers and Rs.750/- to assistants as monthly additional honorarium.
Malnutrition Scale/Breast feeding incentive:
A research work for evaluation of status of indicators of malnutrition and breast-feeding in the State and implementation of a proper strategy on the basis of its findings is very important. The State Government finances the activities for malnutrition norms/promotion of breast-feeding. In the past the above activities were conducted with the cooperation of World Food Program and Breast-Feeding Promotion Network of India.
Prohibition of Child Marriage Act:
For implementation of “Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006”, the District Program Officer has been nominated as “Child Marriage Prohibition Officer” at district level dated 06 September, 2010 of Women Empowerment and Child Development Department.
Mukhya Mantri Anchal Amrit Yojana :
Mukhyamantri Anchal Amrit Yojana in Dehradun on 7 March 2019, under which 2.5 lakh children at 20,000 Anganwadi kendras in the state will be given 100 ml milk twice a week for free.Flavoured, sweet, skimmed milk powder will be made available to the 20,000 Anganwadi kendras across the state under the Amrit Yojana. Healthy children alone can make the country's future healthy and secure. Govt termed it as a major step towards fighting malnutrition in the state. According to govt. record as many as 18,000 children suffer from malnutrition in Uttarakhand.
Janani –Shishu Suraksha Karyakram ( JSSK ) :
This is a step further in ensuring better facilities for women and child health services. State ensures that benefits under JSSK would reach every needy pregnant woman coming to government institutional facility. The new initiative of JSSK would provide completely free and cashless services to pregnant women including normal deliveries and caesarean operations and sick new born (up to 30 days after birth) in Government health institutions in both rural and urban areas. The new JSSK initiative is estimated to benefit more than one crore pregnant women & newborns who access public health institutions every year in both urban and rural areas.
