The Punjab government has set up a Commission of Inquiry, headed by former Punjab and Haryana High Court Judge Mehtab Singh Gill, to review allegedly false cases/ FIRs in the state of Punjab during the last 10 Years and submit its report to the government after such inquiry. The two-member Commission has former District and Sessions Judge B S Mehandiratta as member. The Commission has been appointed under The Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952.Till date, out of 4,213 complaints received by the commission, it has examined 1,074 complaints out of which 746 have been dismissed. The commission has recommended action on 328 complaints. Since its inception, the commission has submitted seven interim reports to Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.
