Which of the following is the first ropeway in Himachal Pradesh to have achieved the feat of operating above a water body:
Mata Baglamukhi Ropeway
Parwanoo Timber Trail Ropeway
Solang Valley Ropeway
Bhuntar to Jhulah Ropeway
The Himachal Pradesh government has recently inaugurated the Mata Baglamukhi Ropeway, a significant infrastructure project located in the Mandi district.
This state-of-the-art ropeway connects the Pandoh area with the revered Mata Baglamukhi Temple in Bakhli, situated along the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway.
With a total length of 800 meters and a construction cost of ?53.89 crore, this ropeway is designed to enhance accessibility and promote tourism in the region.
The Mata Baglamukhi Ropeway is not just a means of transportation; it represents a modern engineering marvel that conforms to European CEN standards.
The ropeway operates at a speed of 6 meters per second (approximately 21.6 km/h) and has the capacity to accommodate up to 600 passengers per hour. This innovative transport solution is expected to significantly reduce travel time for pilgrims and tourists, bypassing a 14-kilometer road journey that previously connected Pandoh to the temple.
One of the most remarkable features of this ropeway is its unique route over the Pandoh Dam reservoir, making it the only ropeway in Himachal Pradesh that operates above a water body.
This aspect not only adds to the excitement of the ride but also offers breathtaking views of the serene waters below and the majestic hills surrounding the area. The experience has been described as an exhilarating journey in gondolas suspended above tranquil waters, enhancing its appeal as a tourist attraction.
In addition to improving access to the temple, the ropeway also facilitates easier entry to a nature park developed by the forest department on the opposite side of the highway. This dual attraction is anticipated to draw more visitors, particularly those traveling to popular destinations like Kullu-Manali, Kasol, and Lahaul-Spiti.
Economic impact and tourism promotion
The inauguration of the Mata Baglamukhi Ropeway is part of a broader strategy by the Himachal Pradesh government to promote religious tourism and enhance infrastructure within the state.
By providing an efficient mode of transport, it aims to attract more pilgrims and tourists, thereby boosting local economies. The project aligns with ongoing efforts to develop alternative modes of transport, including other proposed ropeways across various regions in Himachal Pradesh.
