The Haryana government launched four canteens that will serve subsidised and healthy food to the poor in February 2018.Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar launched the food canteens at Faridabad, Gurugram, Hisar, and Yamunanagar via video conferencing from Chandigarh.
The canteens have been set up under the 'Antyodaya Aahaar Yojana' to provide healthy, nutritious and hygienic food at only Rs 10 per meal to all poor and needy.Khattar said the food would be served to registered construction workers and all other needy persons between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily.
"Each food packet weighing 730 gm will include four chapattis, rice, daal, seasonal vegetables, curd/raita, green chutney and jaggery. Each food packet offering 1,150 calories will cost Rs 20, of which Rs 10 would be contributed by the Labour Department.
The Chief Minister said that 23 more such canteens, one each at the district headquarters except Gurugram and Faridabad, would be established.Construction of these canteens was expected to be completed by April-end.
