The state cabinet minister for women and child development Mamta Bhupesh has recently announced that the Indira Gandhi Maternity Nutrition Scheme will now be implemented across the state.
The minister held a meeting with the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) and IPE Global, that work with the state government.
The minister said that under Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojna or the maternity scheme, on the birth of the second child, an amount of Rs. 6000 is given to women for the well-being and good health of the mother-child.
This amount is directly transferred to the account of women.
On November 19, 2020, Rajasthan government launched ‘Indira Gandhi Maternity Nutrition Scheme’.
The launch was inaugurated by the then chief minister of Rajasthan Mr. Ashok Gehlot.
This scheme is focused mainly on promoting nourishment to pregnant women, lactating mothers and children.
The aim of the scheme is to improve the health and well-being of women and children in the state thereby reducing the level of malnutrition in the targeted categories.
It is a crucial step towards women empowerment in the state.
In the initial phase, the scheme was implemented in 4 most backward districts of the state – Udaipur, Banswara, Dungarpur and Pratapgarh.
Arrangements to provide the nutritious food by the government is made through the Anganwadi centres.
Financial assistance of Rs. 6,000/- is given to the beneficiary women in 5 installments
Under this scheme, every year about 77,000 women are to be benefited
