On November 19, 2020, Rajasthan government launched ‘Indira Gandhi Maternity Nutrition Scheme’.
The launch was inaugurated by the then chief minister of Rajasthan Mr. Ashok Gehlot.
This scheme is focused mainly on promoting nourishment to pregnant women, lactating mothers and children.
The aim of the scheme is to improve the health and well-being of women and children in the state thereby reducing the level of malnutrition in the targeted categories.
It is a crucial step towards women empowerment in the state.
In the initial phase, the scheme was implemented in 4 most backward districts of the state – Udaipur, Banswara, Dungarpur and Pratapgarh.
Arrangements to provide the nutritious food by the government will be made through the Anganwadi centres.
Financial assistance of Rs. 6,000/- will be given to the beneficiary women in 5 installments
Under this scheme, every year about 77,000 women are to be benefited.
Phases/ Installments under the scheme:
Under this scheme a financial assistance of Rs. 6000/- will be given to the beneficiary women in 5 phases/ installments
First installment is of Rs. 1000/-. It will be given after the pregnancy test and registration
Second installment is of Rs. 1000/-. It will be given after completing at least 2 ante-natal check-ups
Third installment is of Rs. 1000/-. It will be given on Institutional delivery
Fourth installment is of Rs. 2000/-. It will be given after all the regular vaccines administered to the new born within 105 days of birth and after birth registration of the child
Fifth installment is of Rs. 1000/-. It is the last installment and will be given on the couple adopting a means of family planning withing 3 months of the new birth
