The state transport department of Rajasthan will shut down 37 check-posts or tax collection centres at the inter-state borders from July 1.
The move has been necessitated as all tax will be collected online according to the concerned officials
The department officials have claimed this will help in smooth flow of traffic at the borders and reduce jams. If someone does not pay the tax, then they will have to pay five times the amount as penalty.
At present, 70% of the collection is done online and rest is through check-posts, from next month complete process will be done through the department's website.
Interstate tax is collected from commercial vehicles entering the state and private vehicles are also required to pay the tax if the stay in the state is over 30 days.
According to the officials, by the end of this month, notifications will be issued to spread awareness along with boards and banners being put up at the check-posts so that people entering the state are aware about the new system.
The district transport officials will also be asked to spread awareness about the change.
