In order to promote green cover and encourage students to take care of plants, Pali administration is running a campaign ‘Swachh Vidhyalaya, Swasthya Vidhyalaya’ in government schools.
Under the scheme, the administration is asking students to adopt plants with their names and take care of it till it grows into a tree.
Under the innovative green campaign, till now 50,000 saplings have been planted in nearly 2,000 schools.
It is pertinent to note here that Pali is among the most water-stressed districts in the country. Here, the green cover has depleted manifold in the last 20 years due to indiscriminate mining, overgrazing and overutilisation of groundwater.
According to the District Magistrate Pali, every student has formed an emotional connection with their plant. They not only take care of their adopted plant every day, but also do the same to other plants in and around their residence.
Under the campaign, students have been encouraged to take care of their plant till he/she completes their schooling.
The campaign has been institutionalised in a way that all the schools have to officially report their plantation status to the local administration which has created a dashboard to ensure that all 1700 government schools in the district will follow the campaign.
In the next phase of the campaign, students will be taught about water conservation schemes. Pali district has several sustainable water resources which have dried up due to overutilization in the past 20 years.
